Specialising in fashion, beauty and celebrity portraiture retouching, Abbie runs Faux Pink from her studio in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Having recently returned from living in London, she has worked on diverse and award wining content with leading photographers from around the world.
Starting her career as a photographer’s assistant at renowned studio 44A, Abbie developed her skills with a detailed understanding of photography and lighting. While working in this commercial environment she realised her talent for post production, and went on to pursue a career in retouching. She worked at premier Sydney retouching house, Electric Art where she uncovered a passion for fashion and beauty retouching. Abbie then became the Senior Retoucher for Harpers Bazaar magazine in Australia, working on all aspects of the magazine from celebrity portraiture to beauty and main book fashion shoots. In 2007 she left ACP (now Bauer) and focused efforts on her own studio, Faux Pink, where she has worked on a wide range of Australian an international content ranging from Magazine Covers to online campaigns.
After being approached by the Australian Centre for Photography, Abbie has begun teaching a specialist course in beauty retouching, in addition to her work for editorial and advertising clients. With almost 15 years in the industry, Abbie has cultivated a unique and highly refined style of retouching, which revolves around the ‘darkroom techniques’ of dodge and burn to retouch images with little file destruction, to deliver elegant and subtle results. This modern style of retouching using traditional techniques has allowed her to work for specialised beauty clients who otherwise wouldn’t “retouch”.
Abbie’s years in the magazine industry have given her a strong knowledge of the print process and modern web standards. Her attention to detail and delicate style delivers premium results for every project.
“I absolutely adore what I do for a living. I love the challenge of new creative endeavours and still get a thrill when I flick on the before-and-after of a retouching job. I love making an image look the best it can be, and knowing when to stop. Being a retoucher-in-demand feeds me, and nothing pleases me more than a happy client and job well done”
