Benn Jae began at the Australian Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music. He then side-stepped into fashion with session styling for music celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan, Paula Abdul, M.I.A, Joe Manganiello and Cyndi Lauper. His love for fashion continued to grow and his stellar reputation took him to the fashion runways of New York, Paris, London, Milan and Los Angeles.
Working alongside world-renowned photographers like David LaChapelle and Patrick Demarchlier, Jae was inspired to explore fashion photography. His transition to still photography was seamless. With such a cinematic feel to his fashion photography, it was only a matter of time before Jae was approached by Universal Music and asked to try his hand at directing – the area for which he is now best-known. Jae moved back to Australia, and has been a “go-to” director ever since.
Benn Jae has directed music videos for renowned Australian music-makers including Boy and Bear, Stan Walker, Matt Corby, Angus and Julia Stone, Grinspoon, Guy Sebastian, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Havana Brown, Marvin Priest, Gin Wigmore, Tim & Jean and The Potbelleez. His meteoric rise to directing success within the music industry has come from blending his music and fashion backgrounds, plus incorporating a solid understanding of the craft. Jae has also had a string of commercial success directing TVC's for advertising greats including Clemenger BBDO and BWM.
Benn Jae’s multi-disciplinary approach has certainly contributed to his success. Jae was recently appointed the Creative Director of the fashion label 'Death Suite' and has launched one of the most successful street wear labels this side of the equator. Jae's strong play on cinema is read across his designs and imagery; and his unique crossover (designer/film/stills platform) mark Jae as a leading and stand-alone 'Director' talent in the Australian industry.
